Prairie’s Edge Humane Society is proud to be an open door animal shelter.  No animal is ever turned away.
Knowing as much as possible about your pet’s behavior and health history makes it possible for us to find the best placement for him, so when you bring an animal to us, expect to spend some time answering questions and filling out forms. We will ask you for a donation to help offset the cost of caring for your surrendered pet.

Remember, no animal is ever turned  away, but every donation helps us care for animals.

Once you have completed the surrender paperwork, please understand that we are unable to give you updates on your former pet’s status.   We do have a “Surrender Return Option” which is available should, for whatever reason, the issue of euthanasia arise with your former pet.  In that instance we would contact you with the option of returning the animal to you instead.  There is a fee for this service and you must indicate you want this at the time you surrender your pet.

PEHS would like to know what led you to your decision to surrender your pet to us.

Is there some kind of service we might have provided that would have allowed you to keep your pet?

This question appears on every surrender form, and we greatly appreciate those who fill out an answer. The more we are able to meet the needs of pet owners in our community, the fewer animals might need to be surrendered to us.
